The American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada is the largest organization in the world representing the interests of professional musicians. Whether negotiating fair agreements, protecting ownership of recorded music, securing benefits such as health care and pension, or lobbying our legislators, the AFM is committed to raising industry standards and placing the professional musician in the foreground of the cultural landscape. Benson is a one-of-a-kind high school in Oregon. The school's professional/technical program is unique, and labs and shops available at Benson are not duplicated anywhere else in the state. ▸ Transitioning from photo program to multi-media digital and video programs.

▸ Students create videos for school promotional activities such as open house, documentation of student projects and work, and public service announcements. Students also have opportunities to develop creative student productions.
▸ We have expanded our video program to offer video production to junior level students as well as the seniors.  Juniors are learning camera operation and basic editing using non-linear equipment.  This should help enhance our senior productions and it is involving 60 additional students in video production.
We have maintained partnerships with the Northwest Film Center and Portland Cable Access.  Several students attend the Northwest Films Center’s Saturday activities for students interested in film at the Guild Theater.  And our senior class students have been working in the Portland Cable Access facilities each Tuesday since February 2003 to produce work that will be aired on PCA stations.

Our future plans include developing individual ftp sites for students to post their projects and work that can be accessed over the Internet.  It is our aim to have the sites available for each student in our department.  We are also working to improve our multimedia capabilities.  Our primary mission remains to help students learn to use video production and multimedia technologies to communicate with other students, family members and the community at large.

In 2002, City of Portland voters passed Measure 26-33, which created the Children's Investment Fund. The Children's Investment Fund provides approximately $8.5 million a year for five years to support programs designed to help children arrive at school ready to learn, provide safe and constructive after-school alternatives for kids and prevent child abuse and neglect and family violence. The Children's Investment Fund is subject to annual audits.  Looking for a system for accountability with grantees that receive their funds and tax payers who provide funds. Need to track ways grantees are meeting goals to help them apply for future grants. Looking for ways to help funders understand why technology is worth its expense.

The mission of the Bureau of Housing and Community Development is to work as a professional team in partnership with the community to effectively steward the Community Development resources of the City of Portland and to serve as a catalyst in order to stabilize and improve neighborhoods and enable people to improve the quality of their lives.  ▸ BHCD is currently undergoing an evaluation of its website design and usability.
▸ Housing Connections (www.housingconnections.org), a web site that connections people with a place to live, housing services and housing information. Housing Connections lists information about available affordabe, accessible and special needs housing.

▸ Housing Connections has partnered with One Economy/the Beehive, Oregon Helps, and other web based resources geared towards low-income people in creating an E-tools Training for social service agency staff. Our goal is to provide access to up-to-date housing information with user-friendly tools. The International Foundation for Alternative Research in AIDS (IFARA) is a community-based organization which produces "TIE" (Treatment Information Exchange), a one-hour weekly TV program. "TIE" is an HIV/AIDS education/information program, which focuses on HIV drug treatment, complementary treatment, treatment access, co-diseases and prevention. TIE may be viewed in over one million households in the Northwest United States. Special programs are distributed though satellite transmission and tape to cable stations across the country. McMinnville Community Media is a 501C-3 Non-Profit Organization created to manage Public, Educational, and Government television access in the City of McMinnville.
MCM provides access to cable channel 11 on AT&T Broadband Cable. 
MCM inherited old equipment from the cable company and was therefore challenged to build a studio and provide classes and trainings and opportunities for people that also improved the quality of the equipment available and programming produced. MCM’s signal is seen throughout Yamhill County.  In order to ensure long term stability, the organization is interested in purchasing a building to house its operations (MCM currently rents space).  MCM is looking to provide more live programming.

The Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission manages the Community Access Capital Grant Program which promotes the use and availability of advanced cable system technologies at low cost to the public and non-profit sectors to meet communication needs. ▸ The grant program funds local projects in Multnomah County that reduce the costs of public services, improve community involvement, reduce disparities in underserved communities, and improve service delivery and effectiveness.
▸ When matching funds are combined with grant funds, expenditures for these technology-related projects exceed $4.8 million.
▸ The MHCRC has funded one pilot project that uses the cable system's residential Broadband Internet service in order to support specific public benefits.
The MHCRC funded two Phases of a special initiative to support I-Net connectivity capital expenses resulting in approximately 140 PEG sites accessing low-cost, high bandwidth data services.
▸ The Commission runs its competitive grant round annually.
▸ The Commission is open to building partnerships to leverage funds in support of communications technology access, development and distribution.

The Northwest Film Center is a regional media arts organization founded to encourage the study and appreciation of the moving image arts; foster their artistic and professional excellence; and to help create a climate in which they may flourish. The Center provides a variety of film and video exhibition, education and information programs.  ▸ Created a program for Latinos ages 12-20 to discuss what it’s like to be young and Latino. The project resulted in five short films from five different points of view. NW Film Center is donating 500 copies of these shorts to teachers, parents groups, and diversity training groups to use for educational development purposes.

Young Filmmakers Program allows youth to work with professional filmmakers. Students choose local issues and causes as video topics and work to find audiences for videos they produce. An MHCRC grant has funded a community in-service learning center with local high school and Portland State University students who have produced videos featured in festivals. Our mission at the NMLC is to strengthen critical thinking skills for understanding the media and its ability to sell, persuade and influence attitudes and behavior.  We are fulfilling this mission through education, advocacy and research.

The Northwest Media Literacy Center is a group of teachers, health professionals, parents, students, journalists, filmmakers and others committed to advancing media literacy in Oregon and Washington. We offer media literacy courses and presentations to interested groups, including PTAs, faith communities, professional associations, workplace/brownbag gatherings and school staffs. NMLC seeks to become a resource center for materials about media literacy. We consult with groups and individuals interested in media literacy as a topic or as a way to resolve personal and family issues surrounding media use.
